Q When I got on Highway 101 around 5:20 p.m. Tuesday, traffic was flowing through San Mateo County. Right before the carpool lane starts in Redwood City, traffic started building and didn't get resolved until near Highway 85. So I exited Lawrence Expressway and grabbed dinner to let traffic ease. I'm not really seeing much of an impact or improvement with the signals. "... My commute Tuesday night from Woodside Road to San Antonio Road was better. There were definite slow spots, but at least we kept moving. "... How did your test of traffic on 101 with the metering lights turn out Tuesday night?

A Slow. Very slow. The trip from Embarcadero Road south to Brokaw Road took 39 minutes, and it was bumper-to-bumper almost the entire 13 miles. This compares with 42 minutes on Monday, Nov. 2, before the metering lights were turned on, and a snappy 27 minutes on Nov. 9, the first day lights began working. Tuesday was faster with meters on, but not as fast as I hoped.
